If you count items routinely, CountThings can do it for you.

We work best for operations that routinely need to count standardized items in a predictable environment and arrangement. We develop a dedicated Counting Template to get peak accuracy and speed for your specific workflow.

Because of this specialized approach, CountThings is a trusted solution across a vast range of sectors. No matter your field, it’s likely that we can automate counting for you.

To get started quickly, choose templates from our extensive library. If our options don't perfectly match your items, our team will optimize them or create a new template for you — in most cases, free of charge.

Is CountThings Right for You?

We are the solution for repetitive counting.

AI counting solutions like CountThings are incredibly effective for operations that count standardized items in relatively controlled or consistent environments. However, AI is less effective in environments with a wide variety of non-standardized products—such as grocery stores with thousands of diverse SKUs or warehouses with jumbled, irregular piles.

The "Point and Count" Test:

It’s a Match: If you can clearly see and count your items just by pointing at them in a photo, we can likely automate the process for you.

It’s Not a Match: If you have to physically dig through a pile or move items to see them, automated counting may not be the right fit.

Still unsure? The best way to find out is to upload a photo of your items. Our team will review it and let you know exactly what we can do for your operation.

Works great
Layers of Metal Sheets: This is a good match for the “CountThings from Photos” app because the stacked metal sheets create a consistent, repeatable pattern with clearly visible boundaries for the AI to track.
Consistent Pattern: Items are organized with clear boundaries.
Rectangular Wood Lumber: This is a good match for the “CountThings from Photos” app because the uniform planks have standardized shapes and distinct edges that allow for high-precision automated counting.
Standardized Shapes: Uniform patterns are easy to identify.
Fruit on a Flat Surface: This is a good match for the “CountThings from Photos” app because the items are spread out with clear separation, making it easy for the AI to identify individual boundaries.
Clear Separation: Gaps between items make them easy to detect.
Bundle of Pipes: This is a good match for the “CountThings from Photos” app because the pipe faces are directed toward the camera, allowing our templates to classify and count each item by its specific size.
Size differences: Classify the same item into multiple sizes.
Not a good fit
Grocery Store Aisle: This is not a good match for the “CountThings from Photos” app because the extreme variety of non-standardized items lacks the consistent pattern required for the AI to isolate them.
Too Much Variety: Mixing many different types of items.
Large Crowd of People: This is not a good match for the “CountThings from Photos” app because the inconsistent size between close and far items makes it difficult for the software to accurately isolate each person.
Complexity: Non-standard items in different sizes (or faraway).
Large Pile of Scrap Metal: This is not a good match for the “CountThings from Photos” app because the unorganized pile of irregular metal pieces lacks a repeatable shape or organization for the AI to follow.
No Pattern: Lacks the visual cues needed to isolate items.
Fruit in a Deep Pile: This is not a good match for the “CountThings from Photos” app because many items are hidden in the pile; the AI cannot count items if their boundaries are not visible to the camera.
Invisible Items: If an item is hidden in a pile, it cannot be counted.

Advanced Capabilities (Optional)

While CountThings is designed for simplicity, we provide powerful tools for complex operations. Our team is available to help you configure these advanced features:

Workflow integration & data sharing

Connect your counting results to other parts of your business, such as accounting or ERP systems. Whether you have a clear plan or just a general idea of your needs, we will work with you to design your ideal data workflow. There is typically no cost for this integration support.

Enterprise management & cost optimization

For larger organizations, we can set up an enterprise system with volume discounts. This allows you to easily manage licenses and pre-configure features for your team—giving your users exactly what they need for their tasks while optimizing costs.

Regulatory compliance & audit trails

If your industry requires strict record-keeping or specific compliance standards, we can help you configure the app to meet audit requirements and maintain data integrity.

The Offline Advantage: Secure, On-Device Counting

For most organizations, counting data and imagery are highly confidential. To ensure maximum security, CountThings performs all counting locally on your device rather than in the cloud. This approach ensures your proprietary images and results never leave your control or become exposed to external entities.

Even in locations with no internet connection, our on-device technology works reliably so you can stay fully productive offline.

Accuracy tailored to your environment

Our computer vision technology does more than just detect objects—it’s trained to recognize your items against the actual background and lighting conditions of your facility. This is what drives our high accuracy.

Every environment is unique. So while we offer an extensive library of quick-start templates, we can fine-tune them specifically for your lighting, materials, background, and camera perspective. This results in precision that generic counting tools simply cannot match.

This customization is useful in a wide variety of industries, including (but not limited to!) Manufacturing, Construction, Forestry, Agriculture, Aquaculture, Pharmaceuticals, Jewelry & Luxury Goods, Logistics, Audit Services, Law Enforcement, and Scientific Research.

The “CountThings from Photos” app ensures precise accuracy by optimizing templates for the same items across different backgrounds and lighting. For the best results, we can fine-tune a template specifically for your unique environment.
