Form Field Types – CountThings Portal

Who can do this: OEM Admin · Enterprise Admin · Admin Applies to: CountThings from Photos (iOS/Android)
When you add a field to a form in the CountThings Portal, you choose one of eleven field types. This page explains what each type does and every option it offers.
To add a field: open the form ➜ Fields ➜ "+ Add field" ➜ select the type ➜ Done. The full steps are in Create a Form in the Web Portal.

Options shared by most field types

These options appear on many field types. They are explained once here; each section below lists which ones it has.

Field titleThe name the operator sees in the app, also used in the CSV/JSON results. Must match the web service field name when data is exchanged with a web service.
Display value on result photoPrints the value on the saved results photo, next to the count.
Reset value on new photoClears the value each time a new photo is started.
RequiredThe field must be filled in. The operator cannot save while it is empty.
Include value to results photo filenameAdds the value to the file name of the saved results photo.
Include value to input photo filenameAdds the value to the file name of the original photo.
Include value to CSV results filenameAdds the value to the name of the CSV results file.
Show "Scan Barcode" buttonAdds a Scan Barcode button so the value can be scanned with the camera.
Sync with other form itemsCalculates the value from other fields with a formula — see Formulas.
Change template based on valueSwitches the Counting Template depending on the value — see Change template.
Reset based on form itemsSelect another field in Item and click Add form item: this field is cleared whenever that field changes.
Enable based on form itemsSelect another field in Item and click Add form item: this field becomes available only when that field has a value.

Type or add any custom text (e.g. order number).

Auto-scan barcode from photoThe value is read automatically from a barcode visible in the photo being counted.
Is NumericOnly numbers can be entered.

Formulas — Sync with other form items

Turn on Sync with other form items. In Sync value with, choose the Form and the Item, click Add form item, and combine items with + Add, Subtract, x Multiply, / Divide, ( Open Paranthesis and ) Close Paranthesis — for example Count Result × Pieces per pack.

Change template based on value

Turn on Change template based on value. In Add Template Items, click Add new Item, enter a Value and choose the Counting Template next to it — one line per value. When the field takes that value, typed or scanned, the app switches to the matching template automatically.

Create and select options in a list (e.g. product type).

Manage list itemsClick +Add item for each value and type its name. The checkbox next to a value marks it as the default. Remove deletes a value. Click Done when finished.
Import from csvClick Choose File to load the values from a CSV file. The file can have several columns — you select the one to use.
Sync in formShows a Sync Group ID box. Every dropdown in the form with the same ID syncs with this one — e.g. choosing a product also fills in its size from the same CSV row.
Read only itemsOnce a value is set — selected, or brought in by a web service — the operator cannot edit it.

Total Count

Count multiple photos and add up all the results.

How it worksThe count of each saved photo is added to the total.
Reset based on form itemsStarts a new total when the selected field changes — e.g. a new Product Code — and keeps adding while it stays the same.

Auto-Increment number

A numeric value that increases based on a custom step (e.g. ticket id).

Increment ValueHow much the number increases each time the operator taps Save, e.g. 1.
Prefix ValueText placed before the number, e.g. Count_ to get Count_00001.

Expected Count

Compare your counts to a defined expected count value.

Expected valueThe quantity you expect.
Custom message if count is expected valueMessage shown when the count matches.
Custom message if count is not expected valueMessage shown when the count does not match.
Allow "Save" if count is not expected valueWhen on, a count that does not match can still be saved.
Read onlyThe operator cannot change the expected value.
Hide in form fillerThe expected value is hidden from the operator; the comparison still takes place.
Sync with other form itemsTakes the expected value from another field, chosen in Sync with form item — e.g. a field filled in by a web service.
Compare with form itemWhat the expected value is compared with. CountResult is the default; choose e.g. a Total Count field to compare the total of several photos.
Show "Scan Barcode" buttonThe expected value can be scanned with the camera.
Sync with barcode in photoThe expected value is read from a barcode in the photo.

User Email

Volume

Calculate the volume based on the detections and the length.

Type Classification

Detect and classify multiple types of items. Available for specific Counting Templates.
